Watershed Roots: 2003 Communicator Award, 2004 Aegis Award, 2004 Telly Award, and 2004 Summit Award Winner

To date TDI Video Productions has received five awards for Watershed Roots, a DVD and Cable television production for Upper Southampton Township and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's "Growing Greener" program. TDI Productions handled all aspects of the video production. Director Christopher Smith co-wrote the script based on a concept by producer and SWA member Hans Peters.  TDI then assembled the team, shot the video, produced custom 3D animations, original music and handled all of the post production work.  The project is scheduled for release in the summer of 2003. This project was funded in part through the Water Resources Education Network of the League of Women Voters.

Director Christopher Smith narrated the production and directed all of the photography which utilized a Sony HDW-700 High Definition camera equipped with a Fujinon HD lens. "I wanted to use the HDCAM for all of the on screen narration segments, but the images were so beautiful that after the planned segments were finished we just hopped in the truck and drove around shooting any nature scenes we could find".

Assistant Director Dave Allen spent countless hours in the field with the High Definition equipment and found the camera extremely easy to use. "The HDCAM is awesome, the camera was natural and familier but the footage looked incredible, we got so comfortable with it we would say 'hey lets swing the crane out over that waterfall' then realize 'oh, I forgot there's $110,000.00 worth of camera equipment on the end of that crane'".

The footage was down-converted to DVCAM and processed on TDI's new twin liquid cooled 2.8Ghz processor server built to TDI specifications by Kustombox. It was then mixed with additional DVCAM footage shot for the 30-40 minute project.

TDI also took to the air in June of 2003 to obtain aerial video and photography for the Watershed Roots production and for the upcoming documentary of Cairnwood Mansion, a beautiful 1890's structure which was home to self-made millionaire and philanthropist John Pitcairn. Asplundh Aviation and TDI utilized a Kenyon three-axis gyro stabilized camera mount and a Robinson R22 Mariner helicopter to gather footage. Pilot Ric Asplundh and Director Christopher Smith shot the footage over four day period. To learn more about this production click here
